Riverside Inverclyde supports growing food and drink sector
‘Showcasing Scotland – West’ is supported by Riverside Inverclyde
Riverside Inverclyde (ri) is working in partnership with industry leadership organisation, Scotland Food & Drink, to support the growing food and drink sector in the West of Scotland as a project partner of ‘Showcasing Scotland – West’.
Small and medium sized food and drink businesses have the opportunity to grow their business and showcase their products to buyers from hotels, restaurants, farm shops and delicatessens across the region at Hampden Park, Glasgow on 7 March 2018.
Connect Local, the Scottish Government food and drink advisory service, has developed a programme that will provide support and advice for food and drink businesses. The free workshops will cover branding, supply chain and sales support for those looking to develop their commercial capabilities ahead of the event.
A recent survey conducted by Scotland Food & Drink found that 68% of consumers said they value local sourcing and almost half said that they plan to buy more local food and drink in the future.
Andrew Bowman, head of business investment at ri, commented:
“The ambitious growth target to double the food and drink sector to £30bn by 2030 offers existing and future Inverclyde manufacturers numerous opportunities. The launch of ‘Taste Inverclyde’ by Riverside Inverclyde on 28 November 2017 is to help facilitate and stimulate the sector locally, to deliver collaborative projects and ensure Inverclyde capitalises over the next decade. Our partnership with Scotland Food and Drink and the Showcasing Scotland team is a critical piece of the jigsaw in achieving our aims and we look forward to building a collaborative and successful relationship together.”
Caroline Wengel, West of Scotland Business Development Manager at Scotland Food & Drink, commented:
“We are delighted to welcome Riverside Inverclyde as a project partner for Showcasing Scotland – West. The event will bring together the exceptional food and drink companies in the West with buyers from hotels, restaurants, delis and farm shops and provide the tools and opportunities to help grow sales on a local and regional level. It is a fantastic platform to broaden the range and diversity of Scottish produce available in local markets across the West of Scotland.”
The one-day, ‘meet the buyer’ regional Showcasing Scotland events have been developed by industry leaders Scotland Food & Drink, in partnership with the Scottish Government.
